ALDEIA PINUYA REFORESTATION
HUNI KUI, BRAZIL
Currently, 70% of Aldeia Pinuya is occupied by pastures and all of its surroundings are occupied by large cattle farms, making the region extremely degraded and practically without forest cover. Only 30% of the indigenous territory has raw (primary) forest and the absence of forest brings several negative consequences for the Huni Kui, mainly problems related to food security and availability of water.
With the support of Futuro Nativo Phase 1: of this project, a 10m x 10m tree & plant nursery was established in 2022, which is now productive.
This project will fund Phase 2: Reforestation in collaboration with Jiboiana.
To avoid future crises of food and water shortage, the village will grow many varieties of trees, bushes and plants. These varieties will be a mix of fast-growing species to provide shade structures and timber for building and construction, nutritional fruit trees for food, and medicinal plants for traditional medicines.
The funds are being raised to buy the necessary materials and tools required to plant and maintain the new area of land to be regenerated.
